Scott began playing trombone at 12, and by 16 had begun to take an interest in piano and keyboards, playing in rock and jazz bands. In 1992, Scott earned a degree in music from the University of Miami, Florida, focusing on jazz piano performance and composition. After college, he moved to Nashville, where he has since performed and recorded with some the brightest stars in pop/country/faith music, including: Sir Elton John, Aaron Neville, Andrae Crouch, Gloria Estefan, Ricky Skaggs, Eddy Arnold, Lari White, Erin O'Donnell, Brian Littrell (of Backstreet Boys) and Marc Antony. He has served as Donna Summer’s musical director and pianist; toured with Ms. Summer, Margaret Becker, The Wilkinsons, Steve Wariner, and Fernando Ortega; and has also done arrangements for Donna Summer, David Foster, Margaret Becker and Seay. In late 2003, Scott started Scootman Music Productions, a music/audio post house dedicated to scoring to picture, outside-the-box sound design, and bringing back the tradition of using live instrumentalists. Soon after, he completed his first score, for the short film “The Greatest Gift”, a selection at the 2004 Nashville Film Festival. Since then, he’s scored over two dozen indie movies, had tracks placed in movies and video games, and shared the award for '2006 Best Comedy' from atomFilms & LucasFilm for the Star Wars spoof "Sith'd" (with the crazy talented guys from Melk™). He's also done music/voiceover production and sound design work for Scholastic, Oxygen Network, Chattem/IcyHot, Ridiculous Software, ELH Group Advertising, The Nashville Film Festival, The BAO Way, Vanderbilt University, Triple Suns Software, Full Production Services / Ritz-Carlton, CMT, P-K Pictures and many others. A voting member of The Recording Academy (The Grammy Awards™), Scott also serves on the boards of the Nashville Composer's Association, the Association for the Future of Film & Television in Tennessee and Tango Nashville, and is an advisor on digital audio to the Nashville branch of the International Academy Of Design & Technology. He has lectured at Vanderbilt University, Watkins Film School and Columbia State, in addition to doing professional music software clinics. Scott has also been a panelist for the 2008 International Black Film Festival & 2006 Americana Music Conference on film/TV music placement, been interviewed by Nashville Arts & Entertainment Magazine and Keyboard Magazine, and mentioned in the Nashville Scene.
